How does it work? 1 )A
generator send a 20 KHz electric current to a piezoelectric which
converts it in mechanical wave. 2)The
piezo then vibrates to a low amplitude. 3)This
amplitude is increased thanks to several acoustic parts, up to
the last part of the stack: the sonotrode which is designed to
vibrate homogeneously on the whole surface. 4)Balls
or shots get their energy out of surface of this sonotrode. 5) By
creating a housing between the part to treat and the sonotrode,
shots remain in this housing during all the treatment.
MANY APPLICATIONS
We can imagine applications
on several types of parts with many configurations (automated,
in situ, in production line…). In
the treatment housing, balls act as a gas which generates homogeneous
treatments on the area to treat but also give access to difficult
areas.
Since the velocity is lower
than in classical shot peening, we compensate by increasing
the shot‘s mass.
We use bearing balls (and not classical shots) with diameters
going from 0, 7 to 3mm.
The use of high quality shots linked to treatment parameters
control in real time, ensures a reproducible treatment quality
(residual stresses, roughness).
